Geospatial Technology Series: Real-world interoperability examples using open data standards

The opportunities for integrating spatial data across a wide variety of applications and platforms has never been greater.  GIS professionals have many tools at their disposal to enable organizations to take advantage of low cost geospatial capabilities.  This workshop will highlight some of the ways companies are using open data standards in their day-to-day operations.

When: Tuesday, July 22, 2008 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Where: U.S.G.S Federal Center, Building 810, Main Auditorium.

2008: RM-URISA Academic Scholarship Awards
Rocky Mountain URISA is proud to announce three scholarships for 2008 in the amounts of $1,000, $500 and $250. Applicants must fulfill the following qualifications to be considered:

  • Must include a project, paper or visual presentation (such as a map) which makes effective use of GIS and focuses on the purpose of RM/URISA:

    The Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA) is an interdisciplinary society of professionals dedicated to stimulating and encouraging the effective application of information technology and integration of urban and regional information for decision making.

  • Currently paid RM/URISA member.

  • Complete scholarship application.

  • Currently enrolled student in a GIS (or closely affiliated) program at an accredited institution. It is the discretion of the RM/URISA Board to determine if the program qualifies. The student can be enrolled full-time or part-time.

  • The applicant must either live in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah or Wyoming or be enrolled in a qualified program within those four states.

  • Current RM/URISA Board members and URISA (National) Board members are not eligible.

URISA's Annual Conference, October 7-10, 2008 in New Orleans, LA.

Education Initiatives:
Educational outreach efforts for 2007 included a Project Management workshop; a 3D Geospatial workshop as part of GIS in the Rockies; Census Data workshops and a $500 academic scholarship.

GIS in the Rockies:
RM-URISA sponsors the GIS in Urban and Regional Government track at GIS in the Rockies. The recent 20th year conference was a great success, and we invite members to submit papers to the conference, or to volunteer. It's very rewarding, and great networking, too.

URISA Board:
The board of RM-URISA is honored to announce the successful election of our treasurer, Cindy Braddock, to the Board of Directors of URISA. We are proud of Cindy's achievements and outstanding abilities in the field of GIS, and her continuing contribution to the advancement of GIS through her service with this international organization.

RM-URISA dues policy:
RM-URISA is now instituting membership dues of $15. Members who have paid these dues will be eligible for discounts for most classes and workshops.
